Pioneering electronic dance act Lords of Acid have released their seventh studio album Mundo Bizarro to coincide with the second leg of their Cheeky Freaky U.S. tour, which started on October 15th and runs through the end of the month.

Mundo Bizarro is out now on all digital platforms via Metropolis Records and will be out on LP and CD formats on November 6th.

The album is the group’s first all-new material since 2018 and features their four singles: “Karaoke Superstar” featuring Princess Superstar, “Dream Boy” featuring Carla Harvey, the reigning Acid Queen, “El Mundo Esta Loco” featuring Tony & The Kiki and “Ich Will Nur Dass” featuring Mari Kattman.

The Detroit-born Harvey, vocalist for the all-female metal band The Violent Hour and former co-vocalist for Butcher Babies, took over the role of the Acid Queen for Lords of Acid in 2025.

Rock Life recently got a chance to chat with Harvey about her role in the new album, the tour and what else she has going on.

She grew up as a huge Lords of Acid fan so it was a no-brainer when they asked her to become the new Acid Queen, “It was something completely different from anything I’d ever done before. Just getting to perform the songs that I grew up loving and that inspired me has just been so much fun. You really lose yourself in it and it’s music that really appeals to all walks of life.”

Growing up, she attended a lot of Lords of Acid shows and was always commenting on their social media so when they were looking for a new singer her name was brought up and it all came together with “a little bit of magic.”

When working on the new album, the band brought specific tracks to her to put her own spin or “flavor” on them. She says it’s nice to not be responsible for all the everyday components of putting together an album and actually hadn’t heard the full finished project yet,

“I’m excited to hear it and can’t wait to get out there. It’s been a chance to live out my fantasy every night This is the happiest I’ve been on stage because there’s this feeling of abandonment and I just get lost in the music and love seeing how involved the audience is," she shared.

Harvey says she is constantly surprised by just how much love there is out there for Lords of Acid’s music, “It’s great to see the fans coming out every night and selling these places out. And it’s people from all backgrounds and you know, Lords of Acid have always been for everyone and it’s a community that really allows you to be a part of something special. I’m seeing fathers coming out with their daughters, you know? This music appeals to everyone and it allows everyone to just shake off their inhibitions and just be free to be whoever and whatever they are. You can dress how you want and even on stage there is this sense of authenticity. There’s no judgement, you can just be the real you and that’s pretty amazing! We’re providing a safe space.”

When asked what it is about Lords of Acid music that provides that deep connection with the audience, she explained, “I think it’s just that the music is so visceral. It makes you want to move and just be in the moment and have a good time. I think a lot of us grew up in the nineties just listening to and liking all different kinds of music so it just makes sense that Lords of Acid mixes it up and has such a wide appeal. That hour or so is magical and it’s absolutely the best feeling you’re going to get anywhere.”

Harvey’s everyday life is pretty chaotic balancing her music career alongside life as an author and end-of-life therapist, but she says she thrives on stress and chaos, “It can be overwhelming at times, but I enjoy wearing a lot of different hats including the Acid Queen crown. I’ve been singing some of these songs since I was 16 years old so it’s a different experience for me.”

She says all her different interests kind of all overlap each other at times. Her passion for death studies and the idea of mortality has influenced her music and given her a different outlet of expression.

Currently, she is working as a grief therapist with the company Parting Stone, who make memorial stones from cremated human or pet remains.

She is also currently working on a new album with The Violent Hour and they will be playing some shows as well. Their new video for “Already Dead” is out now.

And as for the fans, Harvey just wanted to urge them to check out the album and come out to the shows, including their Halloween date in Philadelphia, which she is pretty excited about, “Its going to be so much fun! And just thanks for all the love and support everyone has shown me.”

Joining Harvey in Lords of Acid are classic members Praga Khan and Olivier Adams alongside touring members Galen Waling, Dietrich Thrall and Creighton Emrick.
